Global Head, Customs Import and Export Compliance

This is an exciting opportunity to join a global industrial & manufacturing company to lead the customs & trade compliance function globally. As the Global Customs & Trade Compliance Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our customs strategy, ensuring compliance, and driving significant cost savings on a global scale.


Your Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement global customs and trade strategies in alignment with Global Supply Chain, Procurement, and other relevant departments, ensuring the necessary organisational structures are in place.
  • Develop and update group guidelines and KPIs for customs, import, and export compliance.
  • Continuously identify, analyse, and implement customs optimisation opportunities by leveraging Free Trade Agreements and customs simplification schemes.
  • Ensure compliance with global and local trade regulations, including export controls, sanctions, and dual-use laws, across Europe, the U.S., and other international markets.
  • Review and optimize the product classification process related to the Harmonized Schedule (HS) for enhanced accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develop and refine trade compliance programs to ensure alignment with evolving regulations and organizational goals.
  • Assess global trade regulations, optimize supply chain processes, and implement advanced IT solutions, such as SAP GTS, to ensure operational excellence.


Your Qualifications & Experience:
  • You are a proactive and creative professional with excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex topics clearly to diverse audiences. With the ability to navigate a global, matrixed organization, you excel at managing multiple tasks and cross-functional projects, solving critical issues, and driving results independently.
  • MBA or MA in law, customs, business administration, finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in customs & trade, with 5+ years in a similar leadership role at a multinational corporation.
  • Extensive knowledge of international customs laws, Free Trade Agreements, tariff classifications, export controls, and customs valuation.
  • Strong operational background with hands-on experience in customs automation systems such as SAP GTS or similar.
  • Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in German is an advantage.
