Leonid Group has been retained to hire a Head of Export Control in Toulouse, France. Our client is a leading manufacturer of aviation and aerospace components.
You will play a critical role in contributing to the evolution of their culture of compliance in accordance with all local and international laws and regulations. You will help raise their export control maturity to bring a competitive advantage and mitigate potential exposure to penalties, debarment, consent agreements etc.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing export control compliance across all relevant jurisdictions, notably the national and US regulations.

Responsibilities:
- You will lead a team in charge of the development and implementation of export control processes and practices to ensure compliance with foreign trade laws and regulations, and other subsidiaries located in France.
- Provide expert advice to senior leadership and cross-functional teams (e.g., Procurement, Sales, Engineering) on all compliance issues, including strategic transactions.
- You will ensure compliance with licenses and other export requirements, laws and regulations, end-use and regulatory reporting obligations, as well as the Export Controls Directives and Methods.
- You will represent the company in export control matters with government agencies and working groups.
- You will ensure export licenses and agreements are in place and that preliminary inquiries or special procedures under French, European and US export control laws, including monitoring and legal reporting, are met.
- You will monitor, assess, decide, control and document the export control-related processes, including classification, licensing and the use of license exceptions, etc.
- You will be a proactive member of the commercial export control leadership team and contribute to the development of the export control programme and function.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Export Control and Sanctions compliance, with significant experience in a senior leadership role.
- Experience in the aerospace or defense industry is highly preferred.
- Experience of working in a multinational environment advising on international trade, sanctions and export control matters.
- You have strong leadership and stakeholder management skills with the ability to lead, mentor and manage a team of export control professionals.
- Knowledge of French and European aerospace industrial export environment - specifically French, EU, US export controls; knowledge of UK and/or German export controls being a plus.
- You constantly seek to improve, have a strong attention to detail and enjoy collaborating in a team and multicultural environments.
- You are organized, action-oriented, customer-focused and proactive.
- You excel at multitasking and know how to set priorities to meet tight deadlines.
- Languages: French and fluency in spoken and written English.
