Leonid is proud to be retained by a leading professional services firm to support the appointment of a Senior Manager into their R&D Tax team in Birmingham.
This is a high impact management role within a strong, well established R&D practice, offering genuine responsibility across project delivery, team leadership, and client engagement. The team operates within the Central & West region and supports a broad, high quality client base across both SME and larger, more complex businesses.
This opportunity will appeal to someone who enjoys being close to delivery, leading teams day to day, and acting as a senior point of contact for R&D engagements, rather than being purely delivery focused.
The role
- Acting as a Senior Manager within the R&D Tax team, working closely with a Partner and Director
- Leading project management and delivery schedules across a varied R&D client portfolio
- Reviewing R&D computations and technical narratives
- Leading and overseeing technical interviews
- Managing, supporting, and developing a team of consultants
- Taking ownership of client relationships and acting as a senior escalation point
- Involvement in some preparation work alongside review responsibilities
- Regular client liaison, including some in-person meetings
While there is longer term growth planned within the team, the immediate focus is on strong delivery, quality, and effective project management.
What they’re looking for
- Proven experience delivering R&D Tax claims within an accountancy or consultancy environment
- Strong technical capability, particularly around compliance and narrative quality
- Confident project manager with experience leading teams and workflows
- Comfortable building trusted relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
- Exposure to software clients or a software-led R&D background is highly desirable
- CTA, ACA, ACCA, CA or similar qualifications are beneficial but not essential

Location & working pattern
- Birmingham based role
- Candidates must be based in, or comfortably commutable to, Birmingham and the surrounding Midlands area
- Expectation of three days per week in the Birmingham office, with flexibility to visit other regional offices as required
